Andrea Mitchell
Andrea Mitchell is an American anchor for a television newscast and a commentary anchor for NBC News based in Washington D.C. After growing up living in New York City, Mitchell obtained a bachelor's degree in English literature at the University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell started as a radio and TV reporter in Philadelphia, KYW Radio and TV. She was then a reporter for the CBS-affiliated WDVM-TV, (then WTOP), in Washington DC. The following year, she was general reporter at NBC News in Washington. The year 1980 marked the beginning of her coverage of the White House. 1988 became the main congressional reporter. She was made the Chief White House correspondent in 1992. As well as the Chief Foreign Affairs Correspondent at NBC News. Mitchell was a guest in the TV news program Meet the Press as a host and panelist. Mitchell was a part of the panel during 1988 presidential debates between George Bush, and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the wife of Alan Greenspan former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. In 2005, Mitchell was awarded the prestigious Goldsmith Career Award for Excellence in Journalism from the John F. Kennedy School of Government and, in 2004, she was awarded the Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) honored Mitchell with the Leonard Zeidenberg Award for her work in the defense for First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell's very first White House coverage was for NBC News, between 1981-1988. This period included the two Ronald Reagan terms in office. Mitchell covered a wide range of important stories including the Iran Contra scandal, budget tax reforms as well as arms control. Mitchell travelled along with Reagan on numerous occasions to meet with Reagan on numerous occasions to attend summits and discuss issues such as and the Iran Contra controversy.
